Sparking Curiosity: Where Science Meets Art

Posted on: 07/11/2025
A few weeks ago, a group of Hampton High students began an exciting project
exploring how art and science can inspire one another, starting with a visit to Orleans
House Gallery to see works by J.M.W. Turner alongside contemporary artist Libby
Heaney.

This week, the journey continued at the Physics Department at Royal Holloway
University. Students explored the laboratories and took part in hands-on experiments,
discovering how scientific principles can spark creativity. “It was a fascinating and fun
experience that gave us a new appreciation for how science and art can work together
to help us understand the world in exciting ways!” said Aila and Audrey (Year 10).

The project now moves into the next stage, as students begin creating their own
artworks inspired by both the gallery and laboratory experiences. Working alongside the
resident artist, they are developing pieces that hopefully will be selected to be
exhibited at Orleans House Gallery, celebrating curiosity, collaboration, and the joy of
discovering new ideas together.
