In English we provide a curriculum that is broad, balanced, challenging and fosters a love of learning. We match our curriculum to the abilities, interests and aspirations of our students, to give every child the opportunity to strive for personal excellence. The cycles of learning are sequenced throughout each year group to carefully assess students’ proficiency in comprehension, analysis, evaluation and comparison.  

Our spiral curriculum develops skills over time and fosters a love of reading and writing. Within the English classrooms the students journey to other places, times and worlds. Through literature and language, our aim is to give the students a wealth of opportunities to build their knowledge and to be ready to take any path they wish to pursue once leaving school and throughout their lives.

English is a timeless subject that has the power to change your life if you let it. A subject that evokes curiosity and challenges the morals and ethics of young minds, whilst building literacy skills pertinent to life outside of the classroom. It helps young people evolve and become respectable citizens who can express themselves creatively, critically, eloquently, and without limits. As a form of escapism, English also builds a bridge to the abstract, breaks down barriers of the unknown, and revolutionises world views through the magic of written and spoken language.
