Year 6 Transition
National Offer Day on 1 March is just around the corner, and we wanted to let you know some of the arrangements that we have put in place to help with your child’s transition into our school.
We were conscious back in October that families of year 6 students were having to make secondary school choices without the option of coming in to see the school first. With this in mind, we posted speeches and tours onto the website, as well as hosting live information sessions for families, with follow up phone calls where requested.
We are really pleased to have received in excess of 530 applications for places to Hampton High, including our Specialist Resource Provision, which is opening this September.
You will find out on 1 March if you have secured a place with us. We understand that you may still have many questions and so we will be scheduling two more virtual information sessions on 5 and 9 March. This will also give you the opportunity to pose questions in advance of joining the session. We will post more information about these sessions on 2 March.
Last year, we moved our entire transition process online. We were not able to invite visitors into the school so, rather than scheduling face to face meeting with each family, we made phone calls to each family. Our families fed back positively about this process. In addition to this, we were still able to visit our key feeder primary schools to speak to year 6 students and answer any questions they had.
We work in close partnership with our local primary schools, and have supported each other through regular contact throughout the pandemic. Now, more than ever, we are keen to find out how we can best support our new Year 7 students so that they can make a successful transition into our school. We do not yet know which covid restrictions will remain in place through June and July. However, we will endeavour to bring students on site to experience the school at first hand as soon as is practicably possible.
We are delighted with how well our current Year 7s have settled into life here. Starting at secondary school can be daunting enough, without the added challenge of coping with Covid restrictions. We have also been really impressed with the way that our Year 7 students have adapted seamlessly to a completely new way of working since the transition in January to remote live learning. Having said that, we can’t wait to see them back in school again – we have really missed all of our students.
Please have a look at our weekly newsletter to see some of the amazing work being created by our students remotely (link).
We look forward to welcoming you to Hampton High very soon.
