Summer School Programme 2021
Hampton High's Summer School was well attended with over 116 families across the year group signing up to take part in activities throughout the week. The Summer School was designed with a blend of learning and bonding activities to give our students a strong start to their secondary school education.
Our aim was for our students to have a smooth transition by:
- forging friendships
- building confidence
- bringing learning to life
Students attending, completed a wide range of activities, from learning about how to keep themselves healthy, how their body works and First Aid life skills to learning about history by going back in time and understanding the life and times of King Henry VIII during their visit to Hampton Court Palace. To support our students to feel confident and build resilience, students were taught about mindfulness and strategies to cope during a time of change. Our students discovered the wonders of new cultures, by experiencing Bollywood dancing; they learnt about the power of working together as a team through a series of team building activities; they played competitive sport; and they came together to create a powerful group performance, using a range of drama and singing techniques.
All in all, the Summer School was a huge success: attendance was strong, and we had families asking if their children could attend additional days as their children were enjoying it so much! Most importantly, our students started Year 7 with a calm confidence. They were excited to embark on their new journey as secondary school students and were ready to begin their journey at Hampton High, having formed strong friendships with their peers and warm, positive bonds with their teachers.
