Home Learning

Homework is set to ensure students practise and consolidate what they have learnt in school or are prepared for what they will be learning next. It contains an element of independent study as it is not directly supervised by a teacher.

Homework can be completed within school, when tasks require books, software or equipment not found readily at home. Homework enhances pupil learning, improves achievement and develops students’ study skills for their future paths and as such is an integral part of the curriculum.

At Hampton High we are committed to providing an enriching and organised learning environment for our students. One crucial aspect of this commitment is ensuring that homework is set consistently and in alignment with our school timetable.

We believe that a consistent homework schedule is essential in fostering a positive attitude towards learning, promoting responsibility, and reinforcing the material covered in class.

Please be aware that all homework is set via an online platform called Satchel:one. An overview of homework including types of tasks, assessment and a setting schedule is shown below:

  1. Timetable Integration: Homework assignments will be set according to the timetable, allowing students to anticipate and plan for their workload more effectively. Each subject will set homework on a designated day or on a weekly/ fortnightly basis, ensuring a balanced distribution across the school week.
  2. Clear Communication: To facilitate smooth coordination between teachers, students, and parents, we will maintain open lines of communication. Teachers will provide clear instructions for each assignment, in the lesson and on Satchel One. You will be able to access this on Satchel:one.
  3. Review and feedback: We will be reviewing the students’ homework in lessons, either on an individual basis or collaboratively as a class. We believe it is important to further bridge the gap between independent home learning and our work in the classroom to ensure the students are gaining the most value from their hard work, and progress even more.  We will be awarding aspirational students who complete high quality homework with praise, positives, and messages home.
  4. Supportive Resources: Recognising that students may require additional resources to complete their assignments, we will make sure that necessary materials are accessible. Teachers will also be available during designated hours to offer assistance and clarification. In addition to this, homework club is available to students who require additional support. This takes place every day after school except for Wednesdays.
