Retweetd From Department for Education

We have been informed some parents have received an email stating: ‘As schools will be closing, if you're entitled to free school meals, please send your bank details and we'll make sure you're supported’. This is a scam email - do not respond, and delete immediately. https://t.co/r6cJP28dyY

We celebrated Naitonal Demo Day within the science department yesterday lunchtime by burning Methane Bubbles! Students got to watch Mr Haigh demonstrate how water is a poor conductor of heat and insulates his hands from the flames! Don't try this at home! https://t.co/b6bNdlVVge

Well done to our students who carried out their first practice expedition on Saturday at Boxhill. They planned their routes and tested their navigation skills. Mr Crossan said, "All did really well and worked together brilliantly as a team." https://t.co/9HXQlSDNhB

The key changes are:

•  The early finish for students is on Friday rather than Mondays (PPA is the regulated preparation time allotted to teachers)

•  All year 7 and year 8 students will be expected to participate in one extra-curricular club just once a week. We are about to undertake work with the Student Council to identify the clubs and extra-curricular activities which students would like to see on offer. These will run from 15.00 – 15.45 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. These will include sporting clubs and fixtures

•  The school day will finish 5 minutes earlier than in the current model, but this will be balanced out by the 45 minute after-school activity (initially for years 7 and 8 only, whilst we develop the model)

•  Exam classes will be able to participate in targeted intervention sessions

•  Morning tutor time will be slightly longer than at present, to ensure that PSHCE* topics can be covered more effectively

•  Lunch and break times currently remain the same length

•  CPD time = Continuing Professional Development for teaching and support staff

We are very excited by the opportunities this model offers. It allows us to really build on the existing strong foundations of extra-curricular work here at Hampton High. This will allow us to develop and embed cultural capital across the school in a more systematic way. It encourages staff to offer broader curriculum experiences to students beyond the classroom. We will also be able to undertake deeper learning around a range of PSHCE (Personal, social, health and citizenship education)* topics through longer form times and assemblies.
