On Tuesday a group of ten Year 10 students visited Oxford University for a university experience day. Year 10 student Jacob Muncey gives his account of the day. “First, after leaving the coach, we were taken to a lecture hall in St Ann’s College where we were given a general introduction into the university and our timetable for the day.
Then we went to Balliol College where we were given a detailed insight into university social life, including many of the different clubs and societies at Oxford, academic life which mainly compirsed of the different learning and teaching methods used at university, and the transition into university life.
Lunch was then served in the college dining hall. After lunch we continued with our insight into university life before finally we received three short lectures on medieval English literature, maths and medical anthropology, so we could experience what university education is like.
Overall this trip gave us all an extremely useful insight into what we can expect from university in general in the future, as well as giving us information to allow us to see whether we may apply for a place at Oxford in the future.”
