On Tuesday 23 January, a group of Year 10 students visited Hampton School to listen to a talk from the talented and determined keynote speaker, Theodore Brun. Theodore Brun is a Cambridge University graduate who has written many novels, including A Mighty Dawn and A Sacred Storm.
The talk lasted about an hour and was an inspirational speech about Theodore Brun’s journey cycling across Eurasia, from Hong Kong to England. He talked in earnest about the toughest challenges he faced alongside moments of euphoria which kept him determined to achieve his goal. The adventure took him one year and 9 days to complete.
Year 10 student Elliot Mitchell commented on the event: “Theodore Brun gave us some great moral advice during his talk, such as the importance of ‘having constant patience’ and ‘never giving up’ on something you aspire to achieve. He reminded us that it is helpful to be able to be adaptable in life.
Overall, it was a story of great challenges and ways of dealing with them. It was a story which suggested you could personally do great things if you are committed enough to push through challenging times and that the reward of achieving that goal was worth it.”
I would like to thank Hampton School for inviting them to this thought-provoking event and they look forward to their next visit.
