6th Form – Careers Information

During the 6th form students will have a range of opportunities to develop their knowledge about what they do after the sixth form. This guide lists the key websites which might help but for further information about specific career paths please contact the careers team.

School Vision 

School is committed to providing a comprehensive a highly effective careers programming to support each individual student on their career journey.  Our programme is set up to deliver a well planned programme of activities to raise all students aspirations and knowledge of the world of work irrespective of age, background, ability or need.  All students will leave school with a range of employability skills so they are ready to embark on their next stage of their journey. 

Aims of the strategy 

The aspirations of the careers programme is closely linked to the statutory guidance criteria and is working toward meeting the Gatsby quality benchmarks by 2020 and aims to: 

  • Inspire and motivate students to develop aspirational career and learning paths

  • To prepare students for transition into further or high education or into employment

  • To provide students with employability skills

  • To equip them with Labour Market information to make informed choices

  • To give them meaningful experiences with employers to broaden their knowledge of a range of careers

  • To challenge their conventional thinking through targeted guidance sessions with trained professionals 

 Statutory  guidelines 

Provided a planned programme of activities which ensure that all students from year 7 – 13 are entitled to IAG, which is impartial, unbiased and based on individual needs. 
 

The programme 

The aim of the programme is to enable students to make informed choices based on a range of knowledge and skills at the time in question. Activities will include:  

  • Career guidance interviews from Innervate Careers Service

  • Employer presentations

  • University visits

  • College visits and taster days

  • Apprenticeship talks

  • Career activities during PSHE lessons

  • Career Events  

  • Work place experiences

  • Targeted lessons (curriculum links)

  • Online careers profiling activities such as BeReady

  • A range of tutor activities

  • A range of resources available for parents , students and staff (LMI) including full information about all routes, pathways and qualification post 14, post 16 and post 18

  • Support for parents at key events such as option choices, post 16 decision making

  • Closing working relationship with the boroughs provision Achieving For Children to offer additional support

  • CV support

  • Application support

  • Interview training

This strategy will be reviewed by the SLT and governing body as part of their regular review cycle
