Y7 Boys Football Borough Final - Hampton High Vs Grey Court

The boys competed in the Year 7 Boys Football Borough Final on Tuesday 16th May at Hampton and Richmond FC’s home ground, The Beveree Stadium. Grey Court edged a closely fought game by winning four goals to Hampton High’s two.

Stan Curd, Captain of the Year 7 Team, reports on the event:

In the early parts of the game, we struggled to find our rhythm and fluidity. Unfortunately, we went 1-0 down within the first 10 minutes, leaving us with it all to do. And that we did. Ruben Doe latched onto a great ball over the top of the Grey Court defence and took advantage of a bad mistake from their keeper, he then found Phi Nguyen who smashed the ball into the top corner to make 1-1. With the momentum on our side, we then went straight up the pitch and won a corner. Ruben Doe headed home from the resulting corner, whipped in by Phi, after rising powerfully above the Grey Court defender. The lead however didn’t last long after the referee waved played on when the ball was believed to have crossed the touchline. Grey Court equalised from the close range. 2-2 at the end of the first half.

Coming into the second half we knew it would be tough and we were under pressure straight away. We eventually cracked, conceding a well-worked goal from the Grey Court forwards. The Hampton boys put the pressure on the Grey Court defence, with the majority of the game being played in their half. With about 10 minutes left on the clock we continued to create chances from open play and set pieces. We had one chance cleared off the line and another hit the crossbar, as well as forcing their keeper into a number of great saves. Just when we thought we were going to pull a goal back and take the game into extra time, Grey Court worked their way up the pitch and scored a fourth goal to make 4-2. The referee blew his whist for full time shortly after the re-start.

The result was harsh on the team as every player put everything into this game, but they came unstuck against a very strong side.

Well done to all the team: Auron Delia, Jake Chaudry, Kian Le Gros, Stan Curd, Morgan Wainwright, Kristian Farrell, Rakeem Karim, Phi Nguyen, Ruben Doe, Billy Davis and Kai Jones. A special mention to Kai who sadly missed out on the final due to medical reasons. The boys have been fantastic in games that they have played so far. They have improved so much and shown great collaboration as a team. A true pleasure to coach.

A massive thank you has to be said to the teachers and students (in Year 7 through to Year 10) who made the short trip from school to support the boys. Thank you also to the parents and other family members who came to cheer on the team.

Congratulations to Grey Court for winning the final. We shall meet again!
